Well Disinfection

Disinfection may reduce or eliminate bacteria and viruses. Disinfection will not correct chemical contamination such as inorganics (nitrate, sulfate), pesticides, herbicides, metals or volatile organics.

Disinfection is recommended when:

  • Tests results show presence of Coliform bacteria.
  • After well has been flooded.
  • After plumbing installation (treatment units, sinks, etc.).
  • Casing or pump repairs.
  • Taste or odor changes due to bacteria.
  • Annual maintenance.
  • Startup of seasonal wells.
